We installed an air source heat pump and solar panels at this 4-bed new build.

Vanessa wanted her heat pump placed away from the house,  for this to be a practical step without jeopardising the system’s efficiency our solution was to install a thermal underground pipe.  Thick thermal pipework retains the heat as it travels from the air source heat pump’s location back to the property’s central heating system – in this case underfloor heating.

You can install thermal pipework up to 30metres away from a property but a secondary return pump is highly recommended. The secondary return will prevent long cold water runs in the shower.

The cylinder space available in the external plant room was limited. Our engineers are used to working in small spaces and our technical team ensures the most appropriate hot water tank is specified. We work with all our clients to ensure the equipment is placed in the optimal position for aesthetics, comfort and efficiency and Vanessa was able to have her cylinder fitted in her preferred location.

The unique position of this heat pump being under a tree can present extra maintenance challenges but an annual service assures the heat pump retains it’s efficiency. It is recommended to keep a minimum of 1m clear as any obstruction can impact the running of your air source heat pump.
