Growing demand for heat pumps in Cornwall

Heat pumps in Cornwall are now becoming a popular choice.

There are many properties in built up parts of Cornwall like St Ives that simply do not have the space for ground source heat pumps. Bore holes and ground loops need access too and the installation costs in many cases are twice the price. With air source heat pumps having performance efficiencies close to ground source, they have become a popular choice.

With oil dependent areas around Truro, Redruth, St Austell, Camborne and Falmouth because of a lack of mains gas, air source heat pumps (ASHP) have become an obvious choice for home owners. We are now installing heat pumps in properties with radiators or underfloor heating. If your choice is radiators then they are slightly less effiecient but if the radiators are specified larger according to MCS guide lines and their star ratings then there is very little difference in their running costs.

Another very important fact to remember when choosing an air source heat pump is to have a heat loss report done on your property as vital mistakes have been made when installers have not done so or done it incorrectly. This is a simple survey, measure and recording of the fabric of the building. This record is very important here in Cornwall where we have a huge housing stock with granite walls – it is a common mistake for heat pumps to be sized according to modern build standards (cavity walls, floor insulation, double glazing, etc….) .

To have your property surveyed correctly and the correct heat pump sized, with your Green Deal report and MCS certificate to qualify for the RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) call Harvest Cornwall. We’re local, we’re friendly and we install heat pumps to the correct MCS guidelines with the right guarantees.
